Adapted Cycles

Thanks to generous donations and funding from the Scottish Government Free Bike Scheme and the Healthy Island Fund, Ability Shetland have a fleet of adapted cycles.

Throughout the year we have multiple Try A Cycle Events where you can try a number of our adapted cycles.

You can also hire our cycles out for a period of time to support anyone to cycle in their community. This service is based on a first come basis. There is no cost to hire out our adapted cycles, but donations are always welcome to help with maintenance.

Trikes 

We have a range of trikes available to hire. Our trikes are suitable for anyone 5 years old and over. Many of our trikes can be fitted with additonal accessiories to support the user. This includes; trunk support, head support, foot sandles,foot clips, harness and seat belts. 

Van Raam OPair Wheelchair Bike

The OPair Wheelchair Bike comes with a seat which is fixed to the front of a bike. A cyclist cycles from the back whilst the passanger is strapped into the seat and can enjoy the view. 

Van Raam Wheelchair bikes

We have two electric Van Raam Wheelchair bikes. There is a ramp on the front of the bike which can be lowered to allow a wheelchair to transfer onto the cycle. This is not suitable for electric wheelchairs. Drivers must be 16+.

 

 

Recumbent Bikes 

We have two KMX Kompact bikes. Suitable for teenagers to adults. The bike will keep you in a reclined position as you cycle. 

Hand Cycles 

Hand cycles are propelled using your arms. We have hand cycles suitable from ages 5 years old to adult.
