Shetland's First Parasport Festival

Shetland held its first every Parasport Festival in 2022 through support from Disability Sport Scotland and funding from Better Breaks.

Parasport Festival are about providing a range of opportunities for young people with a physical, visual or hearing impairment to try new and exciting sports and learn more about the pathways that are available in the region. They are delivered by some of the best clubs and coaches available in Scotland. Furthermore, the events highlight the opportunities for young people with disabilities to achieve at the highest level and hopefully inspire them to become our stars of the future.

Shetland's Parasport Festival was a success with many young people trying a range of different sports for the first time ever. Sports on offer included; wheelchair Basketball, rugby, boccia, badminton, athletics, goalball, kayaking, and swimming.  

Ability Shetland would like to say big thank you to all the volunteers who made the event possible.

A special thank you to Grant Wilson (Grampian Flyers), Jacqui Murray (Shetland RFC), Alison Shaw (Scottish Disability Sport), Danny Peterson (Badminton), Donna Murray and Elaine Park (Athletics), Roger Holmes (Canoe Scotland) and Colleen Blair (Scottish Swimming) for leading the activities.
