Today we'd like to give a shout out to all the lovely volunteers at Ability Shetland, starting with their Trustees.
Willin Haands Award recipients:
Davie Gardner
John Keppie
Dougie Leask
May Macdonald
Jack McEvoy
Sophie Moar
Anita Sinclair
Joyce Henderson (Joyce has previously been a trustee and is still involved with Ability Shetland in other volunteering capacities)
We would also like to take the opportunity of this post to say were saddened to hear about Dougie's passing. We still wanted to share that he received our award and was loved and appreciated in the community and by everyone at Ability Shetland.
Willin Haands award recipients: Avril Starmore and Karen McKenzie
Avril has been volunteering with Ability Shetland’s Boccia group for around a year now and it is wonderful to have someone who is so enthusiastic about this sport. She is a boccia leader who has been delivering sessions in schools across Shetland and has delivered boccia now to over 100 young people and children. Her love for the sport is evident from her coaching and all the children love having Avril come along to help.
Avril has now built her confidence and is leading/organising sessions to other community groups. Everyone who attends her sessions gets so much out of them.
Karen has been standing in to support Ability Shetland for many years! She has more recently supported their Sunday Teas Fundraiser where she helped in the kitchen and out on the floor, serving customers and helped raise over £1300 for the charity. She was a fantastic help.
Well done, Avril and Karen!
Willin Haands Award recipient: David Womersley
Ability Shetland nominated David as he has been a big help to them over the last few years. Numerous times he has helped move wheelchairs and bikes for them with his van. David never wants recognition for what he does but Ability Shetland would like to give him this award to show their appreciation.
Willin Haands award recipient: Kaylee-Ann Best
Kaylee-Ann has been volunteering with Ability Shetland for a number of years and has even been awarded the highest award from Saltire for the number of hours she has dedicated to Ability Shetland.
In the last year, Kaylee-Ann has supported the delivery of boccia in Shetland by offering her time to go into schools and be a boccia leader. Kaylee-Ann's confidence in her own ability has grown in the last year and she is now demonstrating the warm up activities before a session.
Kaylee-Ann loves boccia and that is evident when she speaks about the sport.
Well done Kaylee-Ann and thank you for your time.
